PROCESSION
Around the Catafalque
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS
Slow and solemn music should be played during the procession.
Only the Master, Wardens, Deacons and Stewards take part in the procession.
Marshal remains standing in his place.
Chaplain remains seated.
MASTER - (Rises, raps***)
All officers rise, except Treasurer, Secretary and Chaplain, Wardens take columns, Deacons and Stewards take their rods.
Immediately the Stewards, carrying rods parallel to the body, step down to the border of South pavement. JS, facing West, rod at attention waits for SS.
SS with rod in carry, walks to the left side of JS. Stops abreast of JS, rod at attention.
Wait for JW to step down. When JW is on the floor, Stewards step off on left foot rod in carry. Walk slowly along border of South pavement toward West.
JW, carrying column in right hand, steps down to the floor and walks three steps behind JS. All three proceed along West pavement.
JD, rod in carry, steps forward and walks three steps behind JW.
When JW is opposite West, all halt. JD and Stewards place their rods at attention. Wait for SW to come down to the floor.
SW, carrying column in right hand, comes down and steps to the left side of JW.
All step off on left foot, Turn right on N-W corner and walk along North pavement. Turn on N-E corner and walk along East pavement.
SD, rod in carry, steps forward and goes to left side of JD. When Wardens are opposite Master’s station, all halt. Rods at attention. Deacons take half step to the sides.
Master, carrying gavel, comes down and steps in between the Deacons.
- P. - Procession begins. All step off on left foot, keeping three steps distance, walk slowly along South and West pavements. Proceed along North pavement. When one step East of the Altar, make a right column, then at center make a left column and walk toward East. Stop when Stewards are about two steps from border of East pavement. Deacons and Stewards place their rods at attention.
When SD taps floor lightly with his rod, both columns take one step to the sides, Master goes in front of columns and makes an about face so as to face West. When Master makes an about face columns face inward.
Marshal, with a bunch of white flowers, goes slowly to JW. Steps in front of JW. He bows to JW, JW returns to bow. Marshal takes column from JW and gives him the bunch of white flowers. Steps to his right side and takes place of JW after he has left.
JW steps to center and bows to the Master. Makes an about face and advances to the catafalque by way of South of the Altar. Places the bunch of white flowers upon the catafalque, then says... Returns to his place by way of North of Altar. Bows first to the Master. Marshal returns column to him. JW takes his place and Marshal returns to his place, remains standing.
When Master nods, both columns face East. Master goes to rear of columns and stop between the Deacons. Makes an about face, facing East. SD taps floor again and both columns close in for the second procession.

P. - The procedure of the second procession is identical to the first procession, except that the Marshal shall pass behind the Master when delivering wreath of white flowers to SW.

P. - The third procession is the same as the first procession, except that Marshal returns to his place after delivering the wreath of evergreen to the Master. Master advances to the catafalque and places upon the urn the wreath of evergreen, then says ...
Master returns to his place at the head of the columns and faces West. Both columns face East, as Master makes an about face.
Master and officers remain in their places during the rendition of music.
After the music, Master returns to the East and sit down.
After Master is seated, officers return to their respective stations and places (no crossing between Altar and East), but remain standing until Master seats them.
